How to Tell if You Need New Wheel Bearings: Common Signs to Look Out For
The wheel bearings on the vehicle wear out pretty quick like other moving parts. They bear a lot of weight (hence the name) and play an important function in the vehicle. Don't expect to get anywhere fast without the bearings! But how do you know when the time to change them has come? There are actually signs that help make this easy to determine. Some of the most common signs that suggest the need for new reel bearings include those on the list below.

Strange and Unusual Noises

Notice strange and unusual noises when you drive the car? When the bearings have unusual noises, it is a sign that something is haywire, oftentimes with the assembly of the product. Any type of unusual noise, be it screeching, grinding, squealing, humming, or other sounds, should be investigated quickly. The bearings likely are not lubricated well enough.

Vehicle Pulling to One Side

Another big sign that something is wrong with the bearings and needs to be replaced is when the vehicle pulls to one side of the road or the other. Many people think the problem is with the alignment of the car, which may be true, however, in many cases, the bearings are responsible for the vehicle pulling to one side.
Loose Steering

Wheel vibrations and a loose steering wheel also indicate problems with the bearings. It should be apparent that your vehicle is operating and behaving differently than normal. This can be caused by suspension or ball bearing problems as well but most often it is wheel bearings that bear the responsibility.

Uneven Tire Wear

When there are alignment issues going on, this will wear the tires quicker. It can happen if tires are not properly installed and inflated as well. This sign is not as noticeable as some of the others but nonetheless something to be on the lookout for.

Sometimes nothing more than age causes them to wear out and cause the need for replacement.  How long have the bearings been inside of your car?
