Typographic Source Book
Project A - Typographic Communications
Project A - Typographic Communications
MA Graphic Design - Fall Quarter 2013
Project Overview
Inspiration for a new design can often come from the most unexpected places. Typeface designers frequently collect samples of typefaces from a variety of sources including photography of signage, antique printed printed pieces, and packaging labels. Designers will then use this sample to create a complete alphabet. This type, lost forever if not rediscovered, serves as the inspiration for the creation of a new design. This project will open your eyes to the multiple typographic examples at your disposal.
Project Outcome
After completing this project I was able to do the following: describe the social, cultural, and historical references in examples of found type, identify typefaces and typographic styles in a variety of found-type examples, and describe rationale for including found typographic samples in a typographic source book.
