Are you a moccer or a collector?
I am actually a little bit of both, I used to work at LEGO as an Art director making campaigns and packing for LEGO Architecture and LEGO Ideas. I designed multiple sets and created the launch campaign and packaging of the LEGO Architecture Skylines – launching with the New York skyline. Other campaigns and packaging design I am proud of are the Caterham Cars set and The Beatles Yellow Submarine set. During my time at LEGO I passionately collected as much as I could. I really like the LEGO Ideas sets and the classic Star Wars sets. But nowadays the sets I buy are mostly for my son. We spend a lot of time building together – he is almost 5 years old and really getting the hang of it.
Having a lot of knowledge about LEGO, I find it most interesting to create my own builds, doing that I am buying a lot of stuff on BrickLink. It is a big passion for me. I strive to push my koncpet to another level and force myself to be even more creative every time I start a project. And with my Instagram account I hope to inspire other people.
In my work as an Art Director I am always curious to push the boundaries for creativity, always keen to be forward thinking. A big driver in my creative process is always to have a sustainable angle. During my time at LEGO I devoted a lot of my time in the creative process to create sustainable ideas for LEGO. I am inspired by the huge contrast between plastic and the quite opposite – wood. In my mind there is something quite great the juxtaposition of LEGO and sustainability. And so slowly the concept grew in my mind and came to life, when I started building the AT:AT out of “woodish” tiles that I started collecting and buying on BrickLink. I also like the irony of a Star Wars spaceship made in wood – it is kind of like bringing a soapbox car to a F1 race.
If I was able to launch one of my builds as a LEGO set, I would love to create a whole sustainable campaign around it. The packaging should contain seeds, so you can plant a tree after unboxing the set instead of throwing it in the trash. And all profits should go to forest protection organizations – naturally.
