CLASSIC NOVEL REBOOT - THE GREAT GATSBY PACK RE-DESIGN

This project is about bring a classic novel back to life with a publication reboot. The designs for The Great Gatsby includes a pack design, a book cover with a sample chapter from the original text and two collateral pieces that will accompany the pack. The pack will be press ready with production diagrams.

In the Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby hides his true identity and past behind his millionaire fortune, once stripped away everyone sees who he really is, his true identity. Trying to be someone he is not to impress his love Daisy. My design plays on the concept of the dark and light sides of the life of Jay.

For the pack design I created a enclosure that is a gift to daisy in reference to Jay Gatsby’s giving nature in chapter three. Chapter three was about Gatsby trying to get Daisy’s attention by inviting her and her husband to his big glamorous parties. I did this by making the box look like a gift to Daisy with a paper bow to hold it closed. The three containments are the box/ribbon and inside there is a short 8 page publication of Chapter three and an invitation to his party. This Publication Re-boot design is a small novelty pack to bring back the classic novel ‘The Great Gatsby’ back to life. I chose to place a graphic of a human heart on the front of the publication in gold to symbolise that Gatsby’s only knows how to show love was with his millions of dollars, hence why the heart is a gold/orange colour. The pattern that I created is a link to the art deco style in that time of the 1920s, where money and a rich lifestyle was the dividing line between the rich and poor people of West and East Egg. The colours Black and Gold was a great symbol for this
