Design of the educational system for the course «Soviet architecture of the 1920s—1950s»

Offline course “Soviet architecture 1920-1950” is the one module of term BA graphic design program in SPBU university. This course consider 10 lectures with main influence of social and arts life of 1920-1950 years to development architecture.
Primary target and concept
The challenge was to create the design concept for traditional offline course and include useful methods from online education experiences.
We responded to this challenge by creating the concept “immersion / emersion” as continuous process of shifting modes of cognition during the educational process.
For this, we designed the information system as connection between offline and online practices and between different channels of perception of information.
Considerations
To create immersive atmosphere we decide to use the graphics which visualize the idea of the course as an information construction, as a meta-building. Also we based our design approach on experiments and ideas of avantgarde artists, such as the concept of “Prouns” by El Lissitzky where he researched abilities to connect art and architecture on a two-dimensional plane.

Special thanks for the support to Tatyana Aleksandrova, Senior lecturer, department of design, SPbU and Varvara Speranskya, professor, SPbU
