Card Illustrations for Mythology boardgame

I had the chance of working on Hybris: Disordered Cosmos, an ambitious boardgame
in a reimagined ancient Greek mythology setting made by Aurora Game Studio,
doing illustrations for several decks of cards in it.

It was a challenging but fun project, where I had to do 190 illustrations in total, and that's only the finished and approved ones !
I got to work with a talented team of designers and artists, having to follow sometimes complex cues, incorporate and reinterpret characters and artwork in very different styles in my own.

an example of what it looks like once put on the final card layout, you can see
the icons and text that needed to be avoided in the composition of the illustration
The first 30 cards where made to establish a very distinct artstyle, somewhat reminiscent of
modernized black-figure pottery, and then afterwards to continue developing it
across 160 illustrations in the span of around 4 months.

Adapting this very specific and technical black&white style to a quite wide variety of subject matters was an interesting learning opportunity, because showing depth in particular was a challenge of its own, and the composition had to do most of the heavy lifting, especially narration-wise.

Here is a selection of some of them, I hope you enjoy them
