Portraits from a Course (2004)

This is the course tutor, Mike.  He wasn't happy as we had two sets of lights and backdrops set up but everyone crowded around one and was really reluctant to actually take any pictures.
One of my fellow students.  Part of signing up to the course was we signed model releases that covered any photo taken as part of the course.
I'd watched a documentary about photography, basically following a pro through a number of shoots and he explained his process.  One of his passion projects was to dress models in white then project images on to them and photograph them against a matt black back drop.  I thought this looked cool so suggested it to the tutor, a few weeks later he got a couple of models in (for 'a couple of models' read 'the daughter of one of his friends and one of her friends') and brought along a projector and box of slides.  Unfortunately, the projector was 35mm and the slides were medium format (120).  We landed up just using coloured gels hand held infront of studio lights.
The tutor announced one week that he had been approached by an aspiring model who wanted some prints for his portfolio.  After seeing the poses he wanted to do we concluded that he was aiming for underwear model.  We got our photos printed and brought them in the following week for him to select the ones he wanted.  I'd understood that he would pick a few and the tutor would print them as 10x8s.  Of the 30 odd shots I took of him, he took most of mine with him.  As they were only 8x5s I don't know how much good they were to him.

This particular shot was deliberately lit very harshly as I was going for an interrorgation vibe.

Portraits from a Course (2004)

In 2004/5 I took a short evening course in photography at a local school. I was shooting on film then scanning my negatives.
