For years I have been looking for a really affectionate and well-designed world atlas. A collection of maps without colourful satellite images, reduced in colour and content. With maps that let me dream of distant countries and don’t paralyse me with all colours of the rainbow. But it seems, such an atlas is not available nowadays, and so I decided to draw one on my own. A life’s work? Certainly, but thanks to my education as a cartographer quite achievable.

The first map of my atlas, which I finished last year, is dedicated to Antarctica. For the simple reason that I have always admired the polar projections of our planet. The circular shape of the earth’s surface with its radiating grid system has always fascinated me. The second map to be completed this year will therefore - not surprisingly - deal with the second polar projection of our planet, the Arctic.
