My Last Name Means Blacksmith.

This campaign project was a response to a brief to bring poetry into public spaces. After listening to ‘An Encyclopedia’ by Milo, the line “My last name means blacksmith, and yours?” became the phrase which I focused on.

Living in Leicester, a cultural melting pot, and coming from South Africa, otherwise known as “The Rainbow Nation’, I was drawn towards a campaign which would create sharing spaces for many different people.

The campaign poses a question and the white space allows for the public to interact with the posters by writing what their own last name means, creating a discussion and celebration around cultural heritage.

I incorporated printing methods such as CMYK screen printing and letterpress as much like multicultural societies, this medium requires different colours to build up an image.
