Once They're Done With Us, They'll Come For You

This photo was taken at the sight of one of the protests. It depicts a single asian cop holding a line of protesters as his white colleagues behind him talk, strategize, and wander around observing the scene casually. The set up is eerily reminiscent of the scene where George Floyd was murdered. What happens in front of him? What happens behind him?

I can’t even begin to count the number of times people have tried to weaponize my Asian background against my Black background in order to feel better about even talking to me; to turn me into less of a “threat”. This is a common tactic and it’s why the idea of a  “model minority” exists, because white people want someone on their side. Because the Black Man is the enemy of Amerikkka.

This photo is a call to action for my followers and friends on social media are non-Black people of color: to question your place in the dialogue around racism in this country, the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and to question your complacency and your potentially complicit behaviors.
