As a huge fan of The Dark Crystal since a little kid, I can’t quite express how fulfilling it was to be a part of this project. Technically, I have played the role of Senior Finisher for a number of projects, but this was the first time working directly with a studio independently.
The payoff poster required a massive amount of work. All the characters were composited from various shots and illustrated extensively in order to pull off their poses. Most of the landscape was matte painted and the magical VFX was hand illustrated. The castle was mostly digitally painted as well and took quite a while to make sure it was accurate to the show. One of the more labor-intensive posters I’ve done, but it was a labor of love.

The teaser was pretty fun too, but much less intense. Most of the work went into retouching and illustrating the crystal, hand, and characters.
