Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration
Owen was delighted to be a part of the 90 Candles campaign, which consisted of the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration bringing together 90 illustrators to each create a candle illustration to celebrate Quentin Blake’s 90th Birthday. The 90 illustrations were compiled together as a book, which was then given to Quentin as a birthday present. The artworks were also sold as prints via the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration website, raising funds to help their foundation.
Referencing the original meaning of ‘illustration’ to “light up, make light and illuminate”, Owen's artwork contains a graphic candle form radiating with light pieced together with nine hand-cut paper layers, each layer representing a decade of Quentin Blake’s extraordinary life.
