In this artwork , the immense playfulness and vibrance of the gypsies or the Romani people have been captured in the ancient art form of Orissa Pattachitra adhering from India.
Gypsy dance is mostly an expression of passion and freedom of the Romani people. The dances take place around bonfires and are accompanied by local traditional instruments that has been evolving over time. the gypsy dance can differ from region to region since the Romani people settled in different parts of the world almost a 1000 years ago after they left Indian to continue living their nomadic life.
Pattachitra is an art form that originated from ancient India in the eastern parts such as Orissa and Bengal. It was traditionally done in cloth based scrolls and for ritualistic purposes in the temples. However, the beauty and the aura of the art form has been forever blossoming and thus has been used to create this illustration. Here we've mainly focused on the type of Pattachitra that was used to adorn the walls of the Puri temple during the Rath Yatra, which is the ancient Orissa Pattachitra art style.
Combining the ancient cultures of the Romani people and the ancient art style of Orissa, India has given rise to this illustration.
